Who should take this course?

Biol 155. Introduction to the Human Body is a 3 credit survey course that may fulfill, in part, College or Departmental General Education Biology requirements for graduation (see Curriculum). The course is the study of the human body including principal structures and functions of the body systems and the diseases and disorders associated with them. Designed to meet general education requirements in natural science. Not recommended for those seeking a career in the allied health professions or for students majoring in life science. Students required to take the more rigorous Biol 255/256 (Fundamentals of Human Anatomy and Physiology I and II) classes, and who feel they are under-prepared, would benefit by taking this class first. Prereq: HS Biology& Chemistry or Biology 101.

Students currently enrolled at Iowa State University:
The course is taught both in a face-to-face format and this web format. Therefore, students currently enrolled at Iowa State University needing a General Ed. Biology course but are not able to schedule the face-to-face section may wish to register for this web section (Registration process).

Distance Education Students including High School Students:
Non-traditional students working toward a degree and needing General Education Biology credits, high school students wanting college credit or an individual with an interest in learning how their body works may find this course useful. Students who have enrolled in this web section and successfully complete the course will receive credit at Iowa State University (students who take this course and wonder how the credits will transfer to another institution should contact that institution for information regarding such transfer).
Note: Iowa high school students may be able to take this course under Iowa's Postsecondary Enrollment Options Act (PSEOA) and should contact their local school administration to see if it would be covered. Because this course if taught entirely on-line it is ideally suited for students wishing to obtain college credit but are unable to schedule times when they can enroll in a more traditional face-to-face course.
